About

Elite Music Academy is run by Max Holzner.

Max is an alumnus of the University of Cambridge and the Australian National University and the recipient of many awards and scholarships, including the Cambridge Australia Trust Orde Poynton Scholarship (2005-2007), a UK Overseas Research Scholarship (2005-2006), and an Australian Postgraduate Award (2004-2005). With the assistance of a Llewellyn Memorial Trust Scholarship (2003), he undertook further study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

As a performer Max has worked with many professional orchestras and chamber groups and in festivals across Australia and the UK, and was assistant to the late Christopher Hogwood, Academy of Ancient Music, from 2006-7, with whom he collaborated in the preparation of numerous critical editions for Bärenreiter, most notably Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

Max has over sixteen years teaching experience, and has held positions at Radford College, Canberra, and in the pre-tertiary program at the Australian National University. He has also tutored undergraduates in music at the ANU and at Churchill College, Cambridge, and holds a Certificate of Graduate Teaching from the ANU.

For the last years since making Sydney home, Max has devoted himself to teaching, and his private studio, which has grown into the Elite Violin Academy (EVA). EVA aims to set a new standard in accessible violin and music tuition, with its affordable and truly holistic approach. Max’s passion and desire to see better standards of teaching, especially in online and group settings, has been the driving force behind the creation of the EVA Violin Course and the Elite Music Academy.

Max is also a founding member and current chair of the not-for-profit Western Sydney Orchestra Project, which is aimed at bringing students and top professional performers together and raising the profile of music in the region.
